Event: National Vertical Marathon
Date: 8 June 2014
Time: 7.00AM – 6.00PM
Venue: One Raffles Place
Sunday, 8th of June 2014, at the break of dawn, over 2,600 enthusiastic marathon stairs-climbers had gathered to battle the demanding climbing adventure at One Raffles Place. It was an intense combat that challenged the physical and mental state of all climbers. Each climber’s goal was simple. It was to cross the finishing line and achieve yet another proud stairs climbing journey in their life.
Exabytes took part in this memorable event by becoming one of the sponsors that offered the energy booster, ‘Goodie Bags’ for the participants. Each participant was delighted to receive such a thoughtful gift from our ‘bee-sy team’ and had a cheerful smile on their faces throughout the day.
The creation of the National Vertical Marathon (NVM) took place in 1994 by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Sports Club. Being the only non-academic club in NTU, and the legendary host for 19 consecutive years, NVM was able to see substantial and continuous growth in its participation rates. It had aimed to achieve 2, 600 participants this year, and such goal was realized on that particular Sunday!
It was also a memorable day for NTU Sports Club as it marks the 20th anniversary of NVM in promoting innovative sports and fostering sportsmanship among idealistic individuals. During the stairs-climbing marathon, the continuous roars and cheers by their friends and family motivated all the participants.
At the same time, Exabytes team also stood guard throughout the whole event, giving cheers, support and of course the goodie bags to those that came by!
The marathon was a huge success as a great number of participants including veterans and youngsters in different categories had joined this event. Ultimately everyone enjoyed the climb and all the heart pumping moments, as laughter and smiles were exchanged during the whole event.
Lastly, a photography session wrapped up the race, in which participants were put on stage to capture the historical making moment of their stair-climbing journey! It was indeed an adrenaline rush day that was filled with joy and laughter!
