WHY Backup Your Website
There are a number of reasons why your databases get erased or corrupted, some which are out of your control. When this happens, you stand to lose everything in your site. Therefore, to ensure peace of mind, it is advisable to backup your website files and any databases used by your website before making any changes in your site. With proper backup, you can quickly restore things back to normal should any mishaps happen to your site.   

Why are Website Backups so Important?

Obviously, having an up-to-date backup in place will definitely ensure that you will always be able to restore your website quickly at any time you wish. Knowing how important is your website to your customers, it is thus your responsibility to keep backups in case of unforeseen mishaps.  Imagine a potential customer who is turned away by your website that says ‘Website Down’ – he or she would most probably head straight to your competitor’s website instead.

With a proper file backup, there is a high possibility for your website operations to recover from human error, allowing it to resume in the shortest time possible despite the hiccups.

Here is a Step-by-Step Guide to Fully Backup Your Website.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel.

Step 2: Under ‘File’, click on the “Backup” button.

Step 3: Look for Full Backup Section. click on “Download a Full Website Backup”.

Step 4: Make sure “Home Directory” is shown inside Backup Destination.

Step 5: If you would like to get notifications, please ensure the email is correct and do not tick on the radio button.

Step 6: Click on “Generate Backup” to start backup.

Step 7: You will then see a message stating “Full Backup in Progress…“. It might take some time to complete this process. Once completed, you will receive a notification in your mailbox that the process is done.

Step 8: Your new “Full Website Backup” file should now be found inside the /home directory.  For example: backup-10.26.2016_15-51-32_example.tar.gz.

Oh yeah, do note that cPanel has a built-in backup tool to assist you with a full backup. The fully completed backup files will also be stored on your hosting File Manager.

Last but not least, always remember to keep a copy in your local backup storage or cloud.
